20 Jul

We left “nowhereville” (Rexburg) this morning fairly early because we had a 600km run to Missoula, Montana. The ride today was another of the “20 most scenic” along the salmon river so although the most scenic route, certainly not the shortest. As always however, the additional mileage was worth it and we even stopped for a skinny dip in the river because as usual, the weather has been sweltering!!

On route through a town called Arco, we came across their annual “atomic day” parade which is a celebration of the fact that this was the first town to ever be fully nuclear powered and has been used as a test and training site for submarine crew since 1952.

We got into Missoula around 4pm, settled in and had an early dinner. Tomorrow we cross into Canada.

Be a sport Many of us have the means and wherewithal to undertake the dreams we want but elect to choose otherwise, many however, do not and that is the purpose of this plea. Afrika Tikkun (http://afrikatikkun.org// ) is a South African non governmental, non profit charity organisation run by the Lubner family that in essence does just that; re-provide the possibility to dream and to create the possibility of turning those dreams into a reality.

Unlike many pleas of this nature, I am not looking for any kind of sponsorship for my trip, but I am looking for your donation, regardless of its size to Afrika Tikkun. Please pledge generously as this is a fantastic cause that will assist them to provide food, care, education, health and social services to those that are desperately in need.

    hi Rui

hope that you are well my friend

wow…you have covered a whole lot of road since we met…almost at the top of the world!! much respect

I am currently in Cartagena, having driven up the east coast of Brazil from Argentina via Uruguay, into Venezuela and onto Columbia

I booked my sailing voyage to Panama, remembered that you were planning to do same, checked your blog, and I am booked on the same boat, the Jacqueline

thanks for all the info regarding the trip…now I am better prepared. I also ‘read-with-dread’ about your drama in Panama with the import cert. And I wanted to ask you my friend, if you can recall some of the details…will make my experience more tolerable and would be very much appreciated. So where did you arrange the insurance for the motorbike? or will any company do as long as you have insurance? and where is the aduana office…at the airport cargo area?

I look forward to hearing back from you when you have an opportunity…roryo@hotmail.com

take care, and keep the rubber side down

    peace

    Rory
