14 July (Day 15)

14 Jul

Today was the first day that we truly experienced the roads that we can expect going further North. We did a 320km ride of which the 250km between Iringa and Dodoma (The Tanzanian Capital) was gravel, intense corrugation, rocks the size of rugby balls, pits of soft sand and you name it, it was all there.

Although this road was difficult it traversed some incredibly beautiful parts of Tanzania with a greater concentration of ancient Baobab trees than I have ever seen anywhere else.

These 250km took us no less than 4 hours to do and we are both exhausted. We are spending the night at the new Dodoma Hotel in Dodoma which is great….comfortable rooms, good food and good service. Its 21h30 and I am in bed!

Water break. It was HOT!

Katie decided to have a little snooze after I parked her and went to find a bush.

BackABuddy Many of us have the means and wherewithal to undertake the dreams we want but elect to choose otherwise, many however, do not and that is the purpose of this plea. Afrika Tikkun (http://afrikatikkun.org// ) is a South African non governmental, non profit charity organisation run by the Lubner family that in essence does just that; re-provide the possibility to dream and to create the possibility of turning those dreams into a reality.

Unlike many pleas of this nature, I am not looking for any kind of sponsorship for my trip, but I am looking for your donation, regardless of its size to Afrika Tikkun. Please pledge generously as this is a fantastic cause that will assist them to provide food, care, education, health and social services to those that are desperately in need.

    Hey Rui.
i look in every day in amazement. photos are great, i print some and put them up on the progress map at reception of Ma Afrika Tikkun offices, everybody wants to know what’s going on and shares in the excitement. of course the daily incresing money raised is thrilling. let all sponsors and interested parties out there do the same thing in their offices and many more people will sponsor. even 10c /km. all helps. P.S we look forwrd to treating u both to a back and shoulder massage when u r back. Ride safely and enjoy
