It was a good decision to stay over as both Jax and I came to the conclusion that this has been the prettiest town we have seen and been to since Buenos Aires back in January. A real \u201cbucket list\u201d kind of place!!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.capetocairo2010.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/SAM_0702.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"SAM_0702\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SAM_0702\" src=\"http:\/\/www.capetocairo2010.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/SAM_0702_thumb.jpg\" width=\"641\" height=\"849\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><em>Looks like a fairy tale town\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Wikipedia<em>..\u201dThe town waned during and after the war, and at the beginning of the 20th century was in danger of becoming a <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ghost_town\"><em>ghost town<\/em><\/a><em>. Its <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baroque_architecture\"><em>Baroque<\/em><\/a><em>\/<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neoclassical_architecture\"><em>Neoclassical<\/em><\/a><em> colonial structures were &quot;discovered&quot; by foreign artists who moved in and began art and cultural institutes such as the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Instituto_Allende&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><em>Instituto Allende<\/em><\/a><em> and the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Escuela_de_Bellas_Artes&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><em>Escuela de Bellas Artes<\/em><\/a><em>. This gave the town a reputation, attracting artists such as <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Alfaro_Siqueiros\"><em>David Alfaro Siqueiros<\/em><\/a><em>, who taught painting. <\/em><em>This attracted foreign art students, especially former U.S. soldiers studying on the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/G.I._Bill\"><em>G.I. Bill<\/em><\/a><em> after the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_World_War\"><em>Second World War<\/em><\/a><em>. Since then, the town has attracted a very large number of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists, which is shifting the area\u2019s economy from agriculture and industry to commerce catering to outside visitors and residents. <\/em><em>The main attraction of the town is its well-preserved historic center, filled with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
